Viktor Karpenko (born in 1980 in Chernihiv, Ukrainian SSR, now Ukraine) is a contemporary conceptual artist based in Spain. Originally trained as a Medical Doctor, he also holds a PhD in Medicine and an MBA. Although his professional career developed outside the arts, a lifelong interest in museums, symbolism, philosophy, and the enduring power of visual ideas gradually shaped his artistic outlook.
Self-taught as an artist, Karpenko began his conceptual practice in 2026. Rather than treating everyday objects as materials, he approaches them as carriers of memory, moral questions, and shared human experience. A nail, a key, a feather, a worn book, or a fragment of cloth may all remain physically unchanged, yet acquire entirely different meanings through personal history and cultural memory. His work explores the moment when an ordinary object ceases to function merely as an object and becomes a symbol.
Working with minimal intervention and carefully chosen words, Karpenko creates independent conceptual pieces that invite contemplation rather than provide answers. Each work begins with an idea, while the physical object serves as its most direct and economical expression. Although every artwork stands on its own, his practice is gradually evolving into broader thematic series that investigate recurring questions of faith, conscience, identity, mortality, love, forgiveness, justice, and the human condition.
Karpenko describes his role not as inventing ideas but as recognizing them and giving them physical form. Many future works already exist only as sketches and notes, waiting to be realized. He considers artistic practice less an act of self-expression than an act of attentive observation—remaining open to the moments when ordinary reality reveals unexpected symbolic meaning.
