Manuscripts Don't Burn

This work is dedicated to Mikhail Bulgakov.

He wrote one of literature's most enduring declarations: "Manuscripts don't burn." Yet nearly a century later, the man who gave the world those words continues to be censored, edited, claimed, rejected, and rewritten by the very lands that shaped him.

The rusted nail stands where a pen should have been.

It is wrapped in the language familiar to every regime afraid of memory: Censored. Redacted. Persecuted. Those labels are not relics of history. They continue to appear wherever literature refuses to serve ideology.

A manuscript can be confiscated.
A page can be burned.
A name can be removed from a textbook.

But none of these acts erase truth.

Every attempt to silence Bulgakov has only reminded the world why he still matters. Every line crossed out eventually becomes another reason to read him.

The title is therefore not merely a quotation from The Master and Margarita. It is a challenge to every generation that believes history can be rewritten by deleting its pages.

Manuscripts don't burn. Neither do the ideas that gave birth to them.
