Philosophy of the Work
At the heart of this work lies a single feather—a reference to the ancient Egyptian weighing of the soul. In the Hall of Ma'at, a person's heart was measured against a feather. Not against their wealth, achievements, titles, or power, but against truth.
The poem speaks of a lifetime spent accumulating weight. More possessions. More status. More certainty. Yet when the final judgment arrives, none of that matters. The Judge brings only a feather.
The feather becomes the most terrifying object in the composition precisely because of its lightness. It asks a question no possession can answer: What has your life truly weighed?
This work is not a meditation on death, but on value. It reminds us that the things we spend our lives making heavier may be meaningless when placed beside the weightless measure of conscience, integrity, and truth.
In the end, every burden we carried is replaced by a single feather. That is all that remains to be measured.
